Rosary is said at 9.00am, in St Joseph's Church (during term time).

PARISH SHOPPING MALL

The Parish Shopping Mall is avaialble for Parishioners and friends to help raise funds for the parish. The parish gets a small percentage, from the stores visited, for each purchase made online.

More people are now using the Parish Shopping Mall which helps the parish funds.

Thank you for that but much more help is needed, so do continue to use our parish Shopping Mall as much as you possibly can please.

There are some great shopping deals waiting for you in the Parish Shopping Mall - school books for the children, holiday, travel, software, and a wide variety of other shops.

  • Saturday 28th January 2012 - CAFOD Mass of Thanksgiving - at 2.00 pm at Westminster Cathedral, London, Some seats are available on the coach leaving St Leonard's School at 6.00 am that day, returning at 6.00 pm. Please telephone Kevin Haigh: (0191) 410 2779, if you are interested in going.
  • Thursday 2nd February 2012 - Jazz in Birtley - with 'Rendezvous Jazz' in the Parish Centre at 8.15 - 11.00 pm. Members: £2.50. Guests: £3.00.  A great night out!
  • Saturday 11th February 2012 - World Day of Prayer for the Sick - the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes - there will be a Mass in St Mary's Cathedral, Newcaslt upon Tyne, at 11.00 am, said by Bishop Seamus Cunningham, when there will be the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of the Sick.  All are welcome, especially the sick, doctors, nurses, all employed in healthcare, past pilgrims to Lourdes and all who wish to attend.
  • Sunday 12th February 2012 - Parish Pastoral Council meeting at 7.00 pm in the Presbytery. All welcome.
  • Monday 13th February 2012 - Reading Group - at 8.00 pm in the Parish Centre and from then on will take place on the 2nd Monday of each month. Details from Kathleen Haigh - tel: (0191) 410 2779. New members are welcome.
  • Friday 17th February - Thursday 17th May 2012 - CAFOD UK Aid, sponsored by the Government who have confirmed that they will double all funds collected by CAFOD, which includes Lent Fast Day on 2nd March, and all of Lent.  NB: Lent starts 22nd February 2012.
  • Wednesday 22nd February 2012 - First Day of Lent.
THE SUNDAY MUSIC GROUP
Will be practising every Wednesday at 7.30 pm in Church - new members are welcome.
We welcome anyone who wants to sing or play a musical instrument at the 10.00 am Sunday Mass.

PIETY STALL
Our Piety Stall in the Sacristy is open after weekend Masses for the sale of Christmas cards, calendars, diaries & nativity prayer books, gifts and other things.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S AWARD SCHEME

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme group meets in the Youth Wing of the Parish Centre, at 6.00 - 7.00 pm, on Sunday evenings (except on school holidays).

It is open to anyone aged 14 - 25 years. Come along and enjoy rising new challenges in expeditions, skills, physical activities and voluntary work.

Congratulations to those young people who have now officially passed all elements of the Bronze Awards. They will receive their medals and certificates at the annual ceremony on 31st March 2010.

HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCIES
If one of your family is in hospital and you want the Chaplain to visit them, you must ask the ward nurses specifically for the Roman Catholic Chaplain. (The Hospital Trust claim that, under the Data Protection Act, they are not allowed to divulge a person's religion even to the Chaplains).

NORTHERN BRETHRENS' FUND

Is a fund run by the Secular Priests themselves - it goes back to about 1600 - which also helps sick Priests.

Please make a donation to this fund, monthly by Direct Debit, if possible. In return you get lots of prayers and Masses!

SICK & RETIRED PRIESTS

Your support is also required for sick and retired Priests please? There are leaflets at the back of the Church - donations can be by the Gift Aid Scheme whereby we can reclaim tax of 28p for every £1 donated at no extra cost to the Donator.
